Virtual camera not showing? Fix the Pop Magics camera (Mac & Windows)

Don't panic — a missing camera is almost always a quick fix. Work through this checklist in order and you'll have Pop Magics back in your camera list in a couple of minutes.

The single most common cause? The other app started before Pop Magics did, so it never saw the camera. The next most common? The macOS system extension isn't approved yet. Let's rule those out first, then handle the rest.

The checklist

  1. Confirm Pop Magics is actually running

    Open Pop Magics and check you see a live webcam preview. The virtual camera only exists while the app is running — if Pop Magics is closed, there's nothing for Zoom or OBS to find.

  2. Fully quit and reopen the other app

    This fixes it most of the time. Fully quit Zoom, Meet, Teams, or OBS — quit the application, don't just close the window — then reopen it while Pop Magics is running. Meeting apps only scan for cameras at launch, so they need a fresh start to notice Pop Magics. (For browser-based Meet, fully close and reopen the browser.)

  3. On macOS: approve the camera extension

    Pop Magics installs a system camera extension, and macOS won't expose the virtual camera until you approve it. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Camera Extensions (location varies slightly by macOS version), enable Pop Magics, then restart your Mac. Reopen Pop Magics and your meeting app.

  4. On Windows: check the virtual camera registration

    On Windows the virtual camera registers during install. If it's not listed, restart Pop Magics first. Still missing? Reinstall Pop Magics — this re-registers the virtual camera with the system. A reboot after install helps apps pick it up.

  5. Still stuck? Reinstall, reboot, then contact support

    If the camera is still missing after all of the above: reinstall Pop Magics, restart your computer, and try one more time. If it won't appear in any app, contact support with your operating system version and Pop Magics app version so we can jump straight to the fix.

Most common fix: 90% of "missing camera" reports are solved by fully quitting and reopening the meeting app while Pop Magics is running. Try that first.

FAQ

Why is the Pop Magics camera missing from Zoom?

Zoom only scans for cameras at launch. If Pop Magics started after Zoom, fully quit Zoom (not just the window) and reopen it while Pop Magics runs. On macOS, also confirm the camera extension is approved.

macOS isn't showing the camera even after restarting — what now?
